Rosh Chodesh Kislev

November 16

Kislev (Hebrew: כִּסְלֵו) is the third month of the civil year and the ninth month of the ecclesiastical year on the Hebrew calendar. In the Babylonian calendar its name was Araḫ Kislimu. It is best known for the holiday of Chanukah, which begins on 25 Kislev. Kislev is sometimes known as the month of dreams. The name comes from Akkadian kislimu, however some connect it to the Hebrew root K-S-L as in hope, positiveness, like because of the hope for rain. Others connect it to  “ksil,”  which is Orion, a constellation that shines especially bright during the month of Kislev. In Rabbinic literature, the month of Kislev is believed to correspond to the Tribe of Benjamin.
